Enough Air Pollution: Extinction Rebellion UK stage die-in at the Science Museum
From 11am today, Extinction Rebellion UK turned the Making the Modern World gallery at the Science Museum in London into the scene of a die-in to highlight the effects of air pollution on our and our children’s health. The Science Museum Group accepts sponsorships from fossil fuel companies, with it’s children’s gallery Wonderlab sponsored by Norwegian energy company Equinor.
Extinction Rebellion Faith Communities launch 40 Days of Action on Ash Wednesday: Enough Earth Destruction!
40 Days of Action will be launched on the 26th of February, Ash Wednesday, with a vigil outside Westminster Abbey starting at 2pm to align with Lent. Groups such as Christian Climate Action and Extinction Rebellion Faith Groups will be coming together to call on religious organisations to fully divest from fossil fuels by the end of Lent. Our over-attachment to oil is crucifying the poor and harming life beyond repair.

Extinction Rebellion escalates disruption of London Fashion Week with 2020 ultimatum
On Monday 10th February, Extinction Rebellion delivered a letter demanding the cancellation of September 2020 fashion week and an emergency action plan that supports BFC’s stakeholders through transition into a new format: one that directly addresses the underlying issues of obsolescence, overproduction, and exploitation. And, as a government funded body which uses a Political Engagement Programme to lobby for the industry, Extinction Rebellion calls on the BFC to lobby for the Three Demands Bill and “propose the legislation needed to stop the fashion industry’s exploitation of planet, people and animals.”

This morning, Extinction Rebellion brought the campaign to prevent the expansion of the Banks Mining Pont Valley open-cast coal site in Bradley, Durham, to the doors of the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Extinction Rebellion UK today launched its new strategy for 2020. The new strategy invites people to come and join together during this important year to face the climate and ecological emergency. Let’s be part of the greatest generation there has ever been, let’s create the new: ‘In 2019 we demanded change. In 2020 we begin building the alternative.’
Extinction Rebellion Statement on today’s HS2 announcement
In giving the go-ahead for this vanity project that is so over-budget and environmentally destructive, the Government has not listened to the people. The public are crying out for better local transport. In making this spending choice, the Prime Minister has approved a bottomless financial sinkhole that will destroy much of what little remains of Britain’s precious woodland, wipe out countless endangered and protected species, be a vast new source of carbon emissions, and poison a quarter of London’s water-supply. All at great cost to taxpayers.

Extinction Rebellion Congratulates Oscar Winner and Collaborator Joaquin Phoenix
Joaquin Phoenix used his acceptance speech after winning the Best Actor at the Oscars last night to tell the world that we urgently need to change our ways. His words struck a chord that chimes with Extinction Rebellion’s call on governments to Act Now to address the Planetary Emergency.
Extinction Rebellion response to Counter Terrorism Police ‘Top Secret’ report – ‘Phew not terrorists again’
We all agree public safety is paramount, however if Counter Terrorism Policing is used as a blunt instrument it is a threat to human rights. It is ‘heartening’ to know that the Counter Terrorism Policing Operations Centre didn’t consider Extinction Rebellion a ‘terror group’ or ‘threat’ in February last year. Though this is most likely not the first assessment as we know there has been monitoring of Extinction Rebellion and the network it emerged from, Rising Up!, since its earliest days. [1]
