XR Youth join in Europe-wide digital action to say ‘get the polluters out of COP26!’

Together young people across Europe will create a ‘cyberstorm’ - a digital form of direct action which will target major polluters, key european figures associated with the Paris Agreement, as well as the UNFCCC. The young people will bombard their modes of communication by constantly calling their business lines, emailing them, twitter storming with #pollutersout, and posting on their facebook pages. The intention is to disrupt these companies' business for a day, and possibly longer, in order to send the message that they are not welcome at COP26 in Glasgow this year.

Climate is a women’s issue: Women across the world say ‘NO!’ to climate inequality

At 11am on Sunday March 8, International Women’s Day, a group of 31 women formed a topless chain across Waterloo Bridge - also known as The Ladies Bridge as many of the welders, stonemasons and labourers that built the bridge during the second world war were women. The women were naked from the waist up to symbolise the vulnerability of women around the world in the face of climate breakdown, and had the words ‘Climate Rape’, ‘Climate Murder’, ‘Climate Abuse’, ‘Climate Inequality’ and ‘Climate Justice’ written on their bodies. The women taking part include mothers and grandmothers, journalists, teachers and careers advisors.

From out of the Ashes: ’40 Days’ Begin With Three Acts of Nonviolent Civil Disobedience Around the UK

The 40 Days of Action for Lent, open to all religious organisations and people of any faith or none, launched this Ash Wednesday morning with acts of nonviolent civil disobedience carried out by affinity groups in Durham, Northampton and London to coincide with the launch. It continues this afternoon with Ash Wednesday services outside Westminster Cathedral and Westminster Abbey and the beginning of a non-stop 40-day multifaith prayer and meditation vigil on Parliament Square.

Three Day Blockade of Durham Coal Mine Begins on Ash Wednesday, Launching 40 Days of Action for Lent

Over 300 protesters, including members of Extinction Rebellion, Christian Climate Action, local residents and the ex-mining community, are expected to participate in the Durham coal mine blockade. This unlikely alliance is calling upon Durham County Council and the UK Government to reject Banks Group’s application to expand the mine, ahead of the planning committee’s decision in March.
