Extinction Rebellion Women vs HSBC: Crown Court trial begins Monday

Nine women of Extinction Rebellion, charged with over half a million pounds of criminal damage at HSBC HQ in Canary Wharf in April 2021, are due to appear at Southwark Crown Court for a jury trial beginning on Monday October 30th. The women are on trial for an action which took place at 7am on April 22nd 2021, during which they cracked the glass in several of the windows of HSBC’s HQ in Canary Wharf, London. The women wore patches reading ‘better broken windows than broken promises’ and placed stickers on the windows of the bank reading ‘£80 billion into fossil fuels in the last 5 years’ before cracking the glass using hammers and chisels. If found guilty the women face potential sentences of up to four years in prison.

Health professionals occupy road with ‘die-in’ and issue demands to Oil & Money summit delegates

Over 60 health professionals joined hundreds of protesters this morning outside the Energy Intelligence forum risking arrest by holding a ‘die-in’ and ‘climate inquest’ in the middle of the road outside the conference centre. The recently rebranded ‘Oil and Money’ conference is the largest annual gathering of oil companies and their backers. The Health for Extinction Rebellion members also delivered an open letter to the conference organisers and delegates, calling them out for their central role in the climate crisis, and demanding immediate mitigating actions. “We wish to make it clear that we understand and condemn the continuing deliberate complicity of the energy sector in this humanitarian disaster,” they wrote.

OCCUPIED! Protesters occupy City Of London insurers’ offices demanding they reject climate-wrecking projects in UK and Africa

Hundreds of protesters are occupying the plush City of London offices of ten Lloyd’s of London insurers demanding they rule out insuring the proposed West Cumbria coal mine and the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).. Insurers from Lloyd’s of London have come under increasing pressure to rule out offering insurance to both the West Cumbria coal mine and EACOP, including protests at offices across the UK.

The End Of Month Action days are designed to allow local and regional XR groups to build strong, authentic alliances with climate, environmental and social justice campaigns by creating and executing actions alongside them once a month.

Extinction Rebellion activists are targeting the Labour Party headquarters today to demand radical action on climate breakdown from a future Labour Government. The campaigners have poured fake oil and scaled the Labour Party's Blackfriars Road London headquarters to demand that a future Labour Government commits to taking urgent action to cancel new fossil fuel licences, fund the transition to renewables and shut down Drax.

Treasury still funding climate death as iconic fire engine trial starts

Six climate protectors go on trial tomorrow for conspiracy to commit criminal damage to His Majesty’s Treasury building on 3 October 2019 when 1,800 litres of fake blood were sprayed over the premises from a fire engine. The dramatic spectacle – which made the front pages around the world – was planned to draw attention to the Treasury’s funding of new fossil fuel projects abroad which would result in deaths from climate breakdown. The defendants face sentences of up to ten years in prison each if they are found guilty by the jury. Four years later the Treasury are still pumping money into fossil fuels like there's no tomorrow.

Demonstrators Across The UK Join Global March To Demand An End To Fossil Fuels

Thousands of people will join marches across the UK this weekend as part of the global days of action demanding that leaders rapidly phase out fossil fuels.  The demonstrators will call out the government for seeking to ‘max out’ North Sea oil and gas reserves despite warnings that there can be no new drilling if the world is to stay within habitable climate limits.

Trial aborted and jury discharged without a verdict in XR cofounder Gail Bradbrook’s Department for Transport case

As deadly temperature records are set daily, the silencing of those that would speak truth to power in climate trial after climate trial can be felt. And it's chilling. The long-postponed jury trial of Dr. Gail Bradbrook, for window-breaking at the Department for Transport was aborted this week when the judge dismissed the jury. A retrial is now set for the week commencing 30 October meaning it will take place during the fifth anniversary of the Declaration of Rebellion and Extinction Rebellion’s first major action. Before the trial Gail said: “I’m trying to protect the lives and the futures of my children, all the children in the world and the generations to come."
