Following the news of our meeting with the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, in which we will push for a Citizens’ Assembly on the climate and ecological emergency, the podcast team are pleased to bring you an episode that looks into exactly what is meant by that term.

Jessica and Marijn are joined by guests who are experts in the field of deliberative democracy.

Matthew Taylor is the Chief Executive of the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce). He explains why he thinks the current political system is broken and how deliberative democracy can help mend it.

Sarah Allan is Head of Engagement at Involve. She explains how a citizens’ assembly might work and shares her experiences organising previous ones. She also gives her thoughts on what a Citizens’ Assembly on the climate and ecological emergency should be talking about.

Rupert Read is a Green Party politician, and lecturer of philosophy at the University of East Anglia. He shares his thoughts on the state of our current political system. He also explains how he thinks a Citizens’ Assembly on the climate and ecological emergency might work, both on a national and local level.
