Phoebe Valentine, 23, maths student from Brighton
Phoebe was arrested and charged for aggravated trespass at the London City Airport action during the October Rebellion in 2019. She was tried and aquitted along with four others on 28th January 2020 at City of London Magistrates’ Court. The judge blamed the trial’s collapse on the “abject failure” of the CPS, after the arresting officer failed to appear. Former chief government scientist Sir David King was in the gallery and had been prepared to submit a statement as evidence for the defence.
The Independent, reporting on the action at City Airport, quoted Phoebe’s mum Victoria, who was also taking part:
“I’m a parent, so of course I don’t want to see her taken by police – I worry about that impacting her future,” the mother-of-four says. “But I’m also very proud of her for standing up for what she believes in.”
Phoebe’s acquittal was reported in the Guardian, the Daily Mail, the Independent and the Telegraph.
