Roger Jones, 65, retired electronics engineer from Portsmouth - Extinction Rebellion UK

Roger Jones, 65, retired electronics engineer from Portsmouth

Roger was arrested on Waterloo Bridge on Easter Sunday during the 2019 April Rebellion. He was charged with Obstruction of the Highway and pleaded guilty at City of London Magistrates’ Court on 4th October 2019. He was given a six month conditional discharge and £105 court costs.

“I made a choice to get arrested. There’s not a lot else you can do is there? There was a lot of good will that fortnight in April. I feel like people are waiting for something big to happen – for a big hurricane to wipe out part of America, or for some city to be submerged under water. That might shake people out of complacency a bit. But until that happens people are just going to carry on. When you look around, people are just carrying on with their lives. But serious things have to happen. We’re so far from it.”
