Margaret Mukherjee, 76, retired teacher from Oxford
Margaret was arrested under the pink boat at Oxford Circus during the 2019 April Rebellion and charged under Section 14 of the Public Order Act. She was tried on 31st October 2019 at City of London Magistrates’ Court, where she self-represented. She was found guilty and received a nine month conditional discharge and an order to pay £390 court costs.
“The reason I got involved with Extinction Rebellion was the realisation that the Climate was now an emergency and that here was a group which had a way of making the issues not only visible, but which might just have the chance of bringing the climate crisis to the attention of the public as well as to people in power. I have grandchildren and relatives in other parts of the world and want them to have a life which does not take advantage of the natural world but can live harmoniously with it.”
