John Halladay, 62, HR manager from Canterbury

John was arrested during the 2019 April Rebellion and charged under Section 14 of the Public Order Act. He pleaded guilty on 23rd August 2019 at City of London Magistrates’ Court and received fines totalling £175 and £105 in court costs.

He was also arrested in September 2019 for an action in Dover which shut down the roads leading into the port. John was charged with being an organiser of the action under Section 14 of the Public Order Act. He pleaded not guilty, representing himself in court, but was found guilty of contravening Section 14 (not of being an organiser) and was fined £850.

“I made a contract with my children to look after them. I also made a contract with the state, that I would be an upstanding citizen, provided the government takes care of me and my children in return. I’m taking direct action to remind the government that it has to honour its contract – because I’m not breaking the one I made with my children.”
