Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be in an Affinity Group (AG)? Since the beginning of XR, we have carried out some amazing actions that have got us into the global media and changed the debate, and so many of these had Affinity Groups at the core. We’re not saying that they are the most important thing in the world, or that you have to be in one to be a part of XR, but we are saying that they have a crucial part within our movement, and we want everyone to experience the benefits of being in one.
The Affinity Group Support Network (AGSN), who are a regionally-based group across the UK, have brought you a brand new AG Formation Session that can be done online, in the comfort of your own home. Join us for 2 hours of interactive fun, where we will carry out exercises in the form of spectrum lines to determine who might be best suited in each group. You will then get a chance to get to know each other better and work with one another to answer some XR trivia. At the end of the session you will have the choice to join your new Affinity Group, or if you’d prefer you can come back for another session to find another group – there is no pressure to join one at any point, it’s still a fun experience.
We have found that Affinity Groups are ideally regionally-based groups that can take action close to each other. Yet there are many ways to be involved and to engage in action; schedule an AG Formation with your local group, come with your friends, or go to your local NVDA training to participate in an abbreviated AG Formation activity with people from your region. Alternatively, explore what it could mean to be a part of an AG that is regionally-dispersed… An AG can be what you make it to be!
Everyone is welcome to these sessions, whether you are already in an AG or not, whether you’re from Newcastle or Cornwall, Wales or Northern Ireland – we want you all to see how amazing AGs can be, and to feel the benefits for yourselves. We’d love to see you there, so we can spread the AG love even further!
