The government wants us to walk and cycle more but we need to make cycling safer. If you would like to make your feelings known, join a casual bike ride on Saturday leaving at 10am from Fordham Park (corner Clifton Rise/Achilles Street) via New Cross Road, Brockley, Crofton Park to Forest Hill. A break in Horniman Gardens then on via Sydenham and Bellingham ending at the Town Hall in Catford around 11.30am having ridden on some of the main roads which need improvements to encourage more cycling. This is not a protest (as the right to demonstrate has been suspended by the government) but a way of highlighting issues and encouraging more public cycling.
We have handed in to the Council proposals for improvements both for long term measures and for temporary coronavirus measures which need to be brought it quickly to make cycling an attractive alternative to car driving.
We have deliberately made it a morning event so that it doesn’t clash with the Black Lives Matter protest at 1.30pm at Parliament Square and people can do both.
