Ramp up for Rebellion…
Tennis players do it…Chefs do it… Astronauts do it…
PREPARE – Let’s get ourselves in peak condition for a summer of rebellion.
All rebels, friends and allies are invited to join XR North East and Cumbria for a day of music, inspiration, theatre, fun, connection and food.
WHEN: Saturday July 31,
11am – 4pm.
WHERE: Newcastle upon Tyne, details to follow.
WHAT: The usual dizzyingly eclectic XR mix, something for everyone.
1) WORKSHOPS:
* Samba: music and dance to energize rebels.
* Protest the anti-Protest bill.The Police Crime Sentencing and Courts Bill threatens our liberty and the future of protest. We need to understand the threat and how to use non-violent direct action to fight it.
* The Rebellion/Civil disobedience; What does it mean? Do you know your rights?
* Outreach; How to get the message out there, building confidence.
* XR Talk: Heading for Extinction
2) SPEAKERS/INFORMATION TO STOKE THE FIRE IN THE BELLY
We will hear from campaigners fighting:
* Cumbria Coal Mine
* Consett Detention Centre,
* Tees Incinerator and more.
3) ACTIVITIES/EVENTS
Bague de Ogum – Maracatu Brazilian protest band/
Dead Canaries Samba/,
Lauri Shepherd, local singer/DISCObedience/Red Rebels/John Scott – performance poet/Crafty stuff – Screen printing, painting and chalking and other activities for kids.
