Cause of the Week:

Funds raised this week will support the efforts of Dabirul Choudhury, Bow’s own 100-year-old walking hero, who has, quite literally, stepped up to the challenge of Covid-19. Since Ramadan began on April 26, this local cetenarian has been walking 100 laps of his 80-metre communal garden, while fasting. Choudhury intends to keep walking for the rest of Ramadan, which ends on May 23, to raise money for the RFC’s (Ramadan Family Commitment) COVID19 Crisis’ Initiative, run by the British-Bandladeshi broadcaster Channel S. The funds will be distributed to victims of COVID-19 both in the UK, Bangladesh and over 50 countries.

To support Dabirul’s initiative make a donation for a studio audience ticket or buy tickets to the art raffle and go in the draw to win paintings which Hercules will paint live on the night.

Part of XR’s philosophy is building a future where we want to live. Unfortunately, some of the most vulnerable groups are hurting the most. The poor, the homeless, local green spaces, artists, and XR itself could all be irreparably damaged by this pandemic. But there’s no use in sitting around worrying, we at XR are people of creative action!

We also need to build strength to defend our natural places and hold our government to account once the pandemic is over. Connection is more important than ever to every person feeling isolated and afraid in these unprecedented times. So please stop by, regenerate, and remind yourself that we are all in this together, be it a pandemic or catastrophic climate breakdown.
