Join us to bid a final farewell to the beautiful Garden Of Earthly Delights!

The guerrilla garden needs to make way for a new entrance to Hackney Central station, so its time to give our oasis a jolly send-off.

We’ll have seed swapping, carpentry and clothes mending, spoken word and storytelling, art installations and hot lunch. Sip on mulled wine while we listen to live music and share the stories of this lush, bee-buzzing green pocket and our hopes for what it might become.

Please bring some vegan cake to share and we’ll make sure to send you home with some plants from the garden!

The Backstory:
The land on which the garden was built had been barren and dilapidated, standing empty for over 7 years. In May 2019, over 100 volunteers from Extinction Rebellion rapidly “greened” the site, transforming it into the abundant garden today. The site is now a haven for wildlife, a tranquil, educational food growing space within the heart of Hackney. It provides food, herbs and a program workshops and events for free to all. It’s an example of people power at its best.

This Spring, the space will be cleared, to allow the additional Hackney Central station entrance to be built. The Council and TFL are currently discussing design proposals, so it is vital the community has a say now, to ensure that a garden can return.

We are presenting ideas to Hackney Council, requesting a garden to be integrated within the station design – a permanent green and wild space for the local community, with disability access and bike racks.

A great turnout at the event would show just how much a space like this is cherished.
