Fly Today, No Tomorrow: Shutdown City Airport

Starting from 9am on Thursday 10th October we will peacefully occupy City Airport for up to 3 days.

Gather at the Westminster sites from 7.30am or head to the airport for 9am. Sign up on the Action Network form now.

This will be our biggest mass participation action during the rebellion and this nonviolent disruption will send shockwaves around the world and set a new global precedent for direct action. We’re expecting hundreds, if not 1,000s to participate.

Why now? Why City Airport?

We have reached a tipping point. We stand on the brink. If we continue with our death drive towards extinction, there will be no tomorrow. We are on course for 3-4°C of global heating, which scientists warn may lead to the collapse of civilisation as we know it. Millions of lives in the global south are already being ravaged by climate catastrophe, yet more than 82% of humans have never flown. And so knowing that City Airport is planning a £2bn expansion, it is our moral responsibility to step up and peacefully intervene.

Mass peaceful civil disobedience is vital to force our government to act on the Climate and Ecological Emergency. We demand the Government Tell the Truth about the emergency, commit to a net zero Carbon UK by 2025, and empower a Citizen’s Assembly on Climate and Ecological Justice to decide how we get there.

In the name of our children, grandchildren and the millions of innocent victims of climate catastrophe around the world, we will turn out in our hundreds and use our bodies alone to close the airport.

What’s The Plan?

The plan is to occupy the departure and arrival lounge, blocking security. If this fails, we will fall back to occupying the DLR station and road outside the terminal. Wherever we land, we will construct our ’13th site’ – bringing food, water, tents and sleeping bags to make sure we can continue holding the airport and keeping it closed for a full 3 days.

How Do I Get Involved?

Sign up on the action network form to receive more information, a legal briefing and a full detailed action briefing the night before with details of how to travel to the site. (If for some reason you don’t get the briefing, just turn up at the airport at 10am and be prepared to stay for 3 days).

If you have the financial resources to do so, please also buy a one way ticket from the airport that morning so that you can get through police lines if they are in place to check for ticket holders.
