Breathe in Bath – A Rebellion
Meet:10am
March begins: 11am
Protestival in Queens Square from 12pm
On the 17th of August Bath XR will be hosting a rebellion of its own. The theme – Breathe in Bath.
?WHY? ?
From global heating, to biodiversity loss, to plastic and air pollution, our planet is facing multiple grave threats. Our Government sets unambitious and inadequate climate targets that demonstrate their disconnection and disregard for what is at stake. We are out of time.
We praise Bath Council’s declaration of a climate emergency but concrete steps must now be taken with ambition and urgency. The Bath Rebellion will draw attention to these crises, the lack of action, and point specifically to Bath’s toxic air that regularly exceeds the legal limits set by the EEA and what is deemed safe by the WHO. In 2018 BANES acknowledged that Nitrogen Dioxide pollution in Bath was linked to 12,000 cases of Asthma. Clean air is a basic right!
?THE PLAN?
At 10:00 am on the 17th of August we will meet at Kensington Meadows for an anti-pollution procession along London Road, via the Guildhall and Bath Abbey. The procession will arrive at Queen Square for a protestival at 12:00. Music, food, arts, speakers and more to be expected.
Please bring banners, flyers, placards, posters, chalk, paint, block prints etc… you know the drill. Please also get creative with any pollution masks that you have. Let’s make this a colourful rebellion.
?FAMILY FRIENDLY?
This is a non-disruptive event.
We will be marching on the pavement and are not planning to block any roads.
?GET INVOLVED?
All our meetings are open to all and we love welcoming new members. Find our upcoming meetings in our event listing.
