The second day of the CLIMATE CRISIS FILM FESTIVAL opens with ANOTE’S ARK (Matthieu Rytz, 2018), a documentary following Kiribati’s President, Anote Tong, attempting to find a way to protect his nation’s people as the ocean gets closer and closer to swallowing up the entire country.

After scenes of climate struggle, we have a fitting GUEST SPEAKER from local activists CLIMATE ACTION LEWISHAM, who will be talking about how you can get involved on a local level.

ANOTE’S ARK is part of the THE FRONTLINE double bill, together with our GUEST SPEAKER and HOW TO LET GO OF THE WORLD, pairing two works engaging with the communities living and fighting on the frontline of the climate emergency.

You can buy tickets just for ANOTE’S ARK or save £3 when buying tickets for the whole FRONTLINE double bill. https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/deptfordcinema/t-xxljdm

***THE FILM:***

What if your country was swallowed by the sea?

The Pacific Island nation of Kiribati is one of the most remote places on the planet, seemingly far-removed from the pressures of modern life. Yet it is one of the first countries that must confront the gravest existential dilemma of our time: imminent annihilation from sea-level rise.

Set against the backdrop of international climate and human rights negotiations, ANOTE’S ARK follows Anote’s struggle to save his homeland. Intertwined with his story is the extraordinary fate of Tiemeri, a young mother of six, who fights to migrate her family to New Zealand. At stake is the survival of Tiemeri’s family, the Kiribati people, and 4,000 years of Kiribati culture.

“A sobering reality check.” — Hollywood Reporter

“ANOTE’S ARK does indeed tackle the subject of climate change, but instead of throwing endless facts and figures at the audience, it focuses on a real-world situation that can be witnessed right now.” — Film Pulse
